Microsoft Store (formerly known as Windows Store) is a digital distribution platform owned by Microsoft. It started as an sql server profiler download - Activators Patch store for Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 as the primary means of distributing Universal Windows Platform apps.

With Windows 10, Microsoft merged its other distribution platforms (Windows Marketplace, Windows Phone Store, Xbox Music, Xbox Video, Xbox Store, and a web storefront also known as "Microsoft Store") into Microsoft Store, making it a unified distribution point for apps, console games, and digital videos. Digital music was included until the end of 2017, and E-books were included until 2019.[1]

In 2015, over 669,000 apps were available in the store. Categories containing the largest number of apps are "Books and Reference", "Education", "Entertainment", and "Games". The majority of the app developers have one app.

As with other similar platforms, such as the Google Play and Mac App Store, Microsoft Store is curated, and apps must be certified for compatibility and content. In addition to the user-facing Microsoft Store client, the store has a developer portal with which developers can interact. Microsoft takes 5–15% of the sale price for apps and 30% on Xbox games. Prior to January 1, 2015, this cut was reduced to 20% after the developer's profits reached $25,000.

History[edit]

The Web-based storefront[edit]

Microsoft previously maintained a similar digital distribution system for software known as Windows Marketplace, which allowed customers to purchase software online. The marketplace tracked product keys and licenses, allowing users to retrieve their purchases when switching computers.[2] Windows Marketplace was discontinued in November 2008.[3] At this point, Microsoft opened a Web-based storefront called "Microsoft Store".[4]

Windows 8[edit]

Microsoft first announced Windows Store, a digital distribution service for Windows at its presentation during the Build developer conference on September 13, 2011.[5] Further details announced during the conference revealed that the store would be able to hold listings for both certified traditional Windows apps, as well as what were called "Metro-style apps" at the time: tightly-sandboxed software based on Microsoft design guidelines that are constantly monitored for quality and compliance. For consumers, Windows Store is intended to be the only way to obtain Metro-style apps.[6][7] While announced alongside the "Developer Preview" release of Windows 8, Windows Store itself did not become available until the "Consumer Preview", released in February 2012.[8][9]

Updates to apps published on the store after July 1, 2019, are not available to Windows 8 RTM users. Per Microsoft lifecycle policies, Windows 8 has been unsupported since 2016.[10]

Windows 8.1[edit]

An updated version of Windows Store was introduced in Windows 8.1. Its home page was remodeled to display apps in focused categories (such as popular, recommended, top free and paid, and special offers) with expanded details, while the ability for apps to automatically update was also added.[11]Windows 8.1 Update also introduced other notable presentation changes, including increasing the top app lists to return 1000 apps instead of 100 apps, sql server profiler download - Activators Patch "picks for you" section, and changing the default sorting for reviews to be by "most popular".

Updates to apps published on the Store after July 1, 2023, will not be available to Windows 8.1.[10]

Windows 10[edit]

Windows 10 was released with an updated version of the Windows Store, which merged Microsoft's other distribution platforms (Windows Marketplace, Windows Phone Store, Xbox Video and Xbox Music) into a unified store front for Windows 10 on all platforms, offering apps, games, music, film, TV series,[12][13] themes,[14] and ebooks.[15] In June 2017, Spotify became available in the Windows Store.[16][17]

Get it from Microsoftbadge as of 2015

In September 2017, Microsoft began to re-brand Windows Store as Microsoft Store, with a new icon carrying the Microsoft logo.[18]Xbox Store was merged into this new version of the platform.[19] This is in line with Microsoft's platform convergence strategy on all Windows 10-based operating systems.

Web apps and traditional desktop software can be packaged for distribution on Windows Store. Desktop software distributed through Windows Store are packaged using the App-V system to allow sql server profiler download - Activators Patch February 2018, Microsoft announced that Progressive Web Apps would begin to be available in the Microsoft Store, and Microsoft would automatically add selected quality progressive web apps through the Bing crawler or allow developers to submit Progressive Web Apps to the Microsoft Store.[22][23]

Starting from Windows 10 version 1803, fonts can be downloaded and installed from the Microsoft Store.[24]

Updates to apps published on the Store after October 14, 2025, will not be available to Windows 10.[10]

Windows 11[edit]

In Windows 11, Microsoft Store received an updated user interface, and a new pop-up designed to handle installation links from websites. Microsoft also announced a number of changes to its policies for application submissions to improve flexibility and make the store more "open", including supporting "any kind of app, regardless of app framework and packaging technology", and the ability for developers to freely use first- or third-party payment platforms (in non-game software only)[25] rather than those provided by Microsoft.[26][27][28]

Windows Server[edit]

Windows Store is available in Windows Server 2012 but is not installed by default.[29] It is unavailable in Windows Server 2016. However, UWP apps can be acquired from Microsoft Store for Business (formerly Windows Store for Business) and installed through sideloading.[30][31]

Details[edit]

Microsoft Store is the primary means of distributing Windows Store apps to users. Although sideloading apps from outside the store are supported, out-of-box sideloading support on Windows 8 is only available on the Enterprise edition of Windows 8 running on computers that have joined a Windows domain. Sideloading on Windows RT and Windows 8 Pro, and on Windows 8 Enterprise computers without a domain affiliation, requires the purchase of additional licenses through volume licensing.[32]Windows 10 removes this requirement, allowing users to freely enable or disable sideloading.

Initially, Microsoft took a 30% cut of app sales until it reached US$25,000 in revenue, after which the cut dropped to 20%. On January 1, 2015, the reduction in cut at $25,000 was removed, and Microsoft takes a 30% cut of all app purchases, regardless of overall sales.[34] Third-party transactions are also allowed, of which Microsoft does not take a cut.[35] In early 2019, Microsoft lets app developers get 95% of app revenues, while Microsoft will only take 5% but only if user will download the app through a direct URL.[36] Microsoft discontinued that option in 2020.[37] Individual developers are able to register for US$19 and companies for US$99.[38] As of August 1, 2021, Microsoft will reduce its cut to 12% for app sales.[39]

Windows apps[edit]

In 2015, over 669,000 apps were available on the store, including apps for Windows NT, Windows Phone, and UWP apps, which work on both platforms.[40] Categories containing the largest number of apps are "Games", "Entertainment", "Books and Reference", and "Education". The majority of the app developers have one app.[41] Both free and paid apps can be distributed through Microsoft Store, with paid apps ranging in cost from US$0.99 to $999.99. Developers from 120 countries can submit apps to Microsoft Store.[42] Apps may support any of 109 languages, as long as they support one of 12 app certification languages.[43][44][45]

Movies and TV shows[edit]

Movies and television shows are available for purchase or rental, depending on availability.

Content can be played on the Microsoft Movies & TV app (available for Windows 10, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Xbox X/S), or Xbox Video app (available for Windows 8/RT PCs and tablets, and Windows Phone 8). In the United States, a Microsoft account can be linked to the Movies Anywhere digital locker service (separate registration required), which allows purchased content to be played on other platforms (e.g MacOS, Android, iOS).

On October 2, 2017, Microsoft announced that the sale of digital music on the Microsoft Store would cease on December 31 after the discontinuation of Groove Music Pass. Users were able to transfer their music to Spotify until January 31, 2018.

Books (closed)[edit]

On April 2, 2019, Microsoft announced that the sale of e-books on the Microsoft Store had ceased. Due to DRM licenses that would not be renewed, all books became inaccessible by July 2019, and Microsoft automatically refunded all users that had purchased books via the service.[47][1]

Guidelines[edit]

Similar to Windows Phone Store, Microsoft Store is regulated by Microsoft. Applicants must obtain Microsoft's approval before their app becomes available on the store. These apps may not contain, support or approve, gratuitous profanity, obscenity, pornography, discrimination, defamation, or politically offensive content. They may also not contain contents that are forbidden by or offensive to the jurisdiction, religion or norms of the target market. They may also not encourage, facilitate or glamorize violence, drugs, tobacco, alcohol and weapons.[48][49]Video game console emulators that are "primarily gaming experiences or target Xbox One"[49] and third-party web browsers that use their own layout engines, are prohibited on Microsoft Store.[50]

Microsoft has indicated that it can remotely disable or remove apps from end-user systems for security or legal reasons; in the case of paid apps, refunds may be issued when this is done.[51]

Microsoft initially banned PEGI "18"-rated content from the store in Europe. However, critics noted that this made the content policies stricter than intended, as some PEGI 18-rated games are rated "Mature" on the U.S. ESRB system, which is the next lowest before its highest rating, "Adults Only". The guidelines were amended in December 2012 to sql server profiler download - Activators Patch the discrepancy.[52]

On October 8, 2020, Microsoft announced a commitment to ten "principles" of fairness to developers in the operation of the Microsoft Store. These include transparency over its rules, practices, and Windows' "interoperability interfaces", not preventing competing application storefronts to run on Windows, charging developers "reasonable fees" and not "forc[ing]" them to include in-app purchases, allowing access to the store by any developer as long as their software meets "objective standards and requirements", not blocking apps based on their business model, how it delivers its services, or how it processes payments, not impeding developers from "communicating directly with their users through their apps for legitimate business purposes", not using private data from the store to influence the development of competing for software by Microsoft, and holding its own software to the same standards as others on the store. The announcement came in the wake of a lawsuits against Apple, Inc. and Google LLC by Epic Games over alleged anticompetitive practices conducted by their own application stores.[53]

With the release of Windows 11, Microsoft Native Instruments FM8 Crack+ Keygen Code 2021 - Free Activators that it would not require software (excluding games) distributed via Microsoft Store to use its own payment platforms, and that it will also allow third-party storefronts (such as Amazon Appstore—which will be used for its upcoming Android app support, and Epic Games Store) to offer their clients for download via Microsoft Store.[25][54]

Developer portal[edit]

In addition to the user facing Microsoft Store client, the store also has a developer portal with which developers can interact. The Windows developer portal has the following sections for each app:[citation needed]

  • App Summary - An overview page of a given app, including a downloads chart, quality chart, financial summary, and a sales chart.
  • App Adoption - A page that shows adoption of the app, including conversions, referrers, and downloads.
  • App Ratings - A ratings breakdown, as well as the ability to filter reviews by region.
  • App Quality - An overview page showcasing exceptions that have occurred in the app.
  • App Finance - A page where a developer can download all transactions related to their app.

Developer tools[edit]

Microsoft Store provides developer tools for tracking apps in the store.[55]

The dashboard also presents a detailed breakdown of users by market, age, and region, as well as sql server profiler download - Activators Patch on the number of downloads, purchases, and average time spent in an app.

Troubleshooting

The most common problem that requires urgent assistance:

The encrypted database is not online, not accessible and shown in SQL Management Studio as “Suspect” or “In Recovery”

First of all, if you need the database ASAP(!!!) decrypt it. You can do this even if the database is offline.

Actually, this severe looking problem can be fixed quickly. In general it means SQL Server can’t read the database properly.

There are two probable reasons for this:

Reason 1: DbDefence has not been started.

This is the most common reason. Sometimes it happens when you deploy the database to a customer, but forget to install DbDefence. To check whether DbDefence is running, execute SQL statement:

exec master.dbd_status

The correct result should display a row of data with Status “On”.

If you get an error message instead of the row of data, then the core dll called DBDEFENCE.DLL is missing or SQL Server can’t load it. The DLL is automatically installed into the Binn folder of the SQL Server instance Blue-Cloner Diamond 10.10 Build 839 Crack + Registration Key Free 2021 during the installation. If DLL is there, then something prevents its loading.

Solution: Check the logs of your AV software, and whitelist DBDEFENCE.DLL or SQLSERVR.EXE if necessary. Both files are in the instance folder, for example, "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.SQLSERVER\MSSQL\Binn\". If DLL is missing, reinstall DbDefence. You will not need to re-encrypt the databases. After installation, restart the SQL Server instance or take the database offline then put it back online. The database should be accessible.

If Status is OFF and Error 1 or 2: This indicates a license error. Run SQL statement:

exec master.dbd_reg_info

to see a detailed message. Possible reasons: If you were running a temporary license, it may have expired; If you updated DbDefence but forgot to update the license, the SQL statement may give you “license is too old for this version”.

Solution: update the license at https://www.database-encryption.com/update-support.html then re-activate the software. Restart the SQL Server instance after activation or take the database offline then put it back online.

If Status is OFF and Error number is 0: Sql server profiler download - Activators Patch error happens when something prevents DbDefence from being loaded into the SQL Server process. Usually this is caused by anti-virus software and its "Real-Time" or "Pro-Active" protection. Such software may prevent installation of important DbDefence components.

Solution: 1. Check the logs of AV software and whitelist blocked components. All components of DbDefence are digitally signed and you may whitelist them by its digital signature "Activecrypt Software Ltd."
2. Check whether the DbDefence driver and service are installed correctly: Start the administrator command line and execute "net start acrwatchdrv". This should give the message "The requested service has already been started." Anything else means core driver is misfunctioning. Execute "net start acrwatchsrv". This should give the message "The acrwatchsrv service was started successfully.". Normally it quits quickly and doesn't run constantly. If the message says that services weren't found, then you need to re-install DbDefence. AV software must not interfere with the installation.

We're working with AV software vendors to permanently whitelist our software. AVAST has already whitelisted all our components, but other vendors respond slowly.

If Status is OFF and Error number is more than 2. This is an incompatibility error. DbDefence can’t run on this newer build of SQL Server.

Solution: Download and install the latest version of DbDefence or downgrade SQL Server to the previous working version. Before updating DbDefence please make sure that the license is in good standing by running SQL statement:

exec master.dbd_reg_info

Check the returned field “SupportExpirationDate”. If it has expired, the newer version may not run with the existing license. You need to update the license at https://www.database-encryption.com/update-support.html then re-activate the software. Restart the SQL Server instance after activation or take the database offline then put in back online.

If support has not expired, download and install the latest version of DbDefence. There is no need to uninstall the previous version or re-encrypt databases. Restart the SQL Server instance after the software update.

Reason 2: The database size exceeds the license limitation

If you check Windows Application Event Log, you may notice a message from DbDefence@<SQL Instance Name> saying "Database size exceeds license limitation"

In this case, you can quickly get a 3-day unlimited license at https://www.database-encryption.com/update-support.html. If an encrypted database was not bound to the DbDefence licensee, apply a new activation key and restart the instance. Now you have some time to check out 1click dvd copy review - Free Activators the database grew that big, shrink it, or upgrade the license.

Prelude:
For brevity purposes many acronyms are used in this document.  The first occurrence of any terminology used in this document will include the complete spelled name of the term accompanied by the acronym in parenthesis.  For easy reference below is a list of terminology used in this document and the associated acronyms:

SMA: Symantec Management Agent.
NS: Notification Server.
SMP: Symantec Management Platform.
SMP Server: Notification Server on which the Symantec Management Platform is installed.

Introduction:
This guide covers how to collect all of the available forms of logging for Symantec Monitor Solution, what they are used for, and examples of when they should be collected for troubleshooting purposes. This document covers the following forms of logging:

-Agent Logs
-Server Logs
-Verbose Agent and Server Logs
-Monitor Agent Logs
-PPA Logs
-Policy Data: exported from servers and client's policies.
-NT Event Logs
-WMI Diagnostic Data, Testing, and Logging
-Process Monitor Logs
-SQL Server Error Logs and Trace

Agent Logs - Introduction:
Agent Logs are the written interactions of the Symantec Management Agent (SMA) that is installed on client and server systems.  The SMA is the software that establishes communication between the Notification Server (NS) on which the Symantec Management Platform (SMP) is installed and client computers.  Please note that the NS on which the SMP is installed (SMP Server) by default also has theSMA installed as well. The reason for mentioning that detail is an attempt to alleviate any confusion when discussing client and server interactions because any server (including the SMP server) can also be a client. For the purposes of this document, client and server interaction will refer to the interaction between the SMP Server and another computer with the agent installed on it regardless of whether or not that client is a server system or a true client endpoint. Any computer with the SMA installed on it is referred to as a Managed Client.

Agent Logs - When to collect:
There are many reasons for collecting the agent logs.  All of the solutions (SMP Plugin) available in the SMP use the SMA for communication.  One reason for collecting them may be to determine which solution is causing the issue or if there are multiple problems. In general, the agent logs are a good starting point when diagnosing most problems in the SMP. Agent Logs are important to gather when having issues with a particular machine or a few specific machines.

Agent Logs - How to collect:
Client logs are located at C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Symantec Agent\Logs

Mac/Linux:

   1.) Open a terminal.
2.) Enter the following command cd /opt/altiris/notification/nsagent/var.
3.) Enter the following command cat aex-client.log.

Server Logs - Introduction:
The Server Logs are essentially the inverse of the Agent Logs.  Instead of detailing the interaction between a single client and the SMP, the Server Logs are the written interaction between the SMP softmaker office professional - Crack Key For U all Managed Clients. The Server Logs could be described as a one to many relationship where the Agent Logs can be described as a one to one relationship.

Server Logs - When to collect:
In most of the same instances that Agent Logs are gathered, it is also a good idea to gather the Server Logs.  It is especially important to gather server logs when an issue is widely distributed amongst client computers rather than an issue with an individual computer.

Server Logs - How to collect:
Symantec Management Platform (Notification Server) logs are located at C:\ProgramData\Symantec\SMP\Logs

Verbose Agent Logs - Introduction:
Verbose Agent Logs are actually in the same location and are the same log files as the standard agent files, the only difference being that verbose logging has been enabled on those log files.

Verbose Agent Logs - When to collect:
Verbose Agent Logging is used in many of the same situations that standard agent logging is collected, but sometimes it is helpful to see every interaction between a particular client and the SMP Server.  Verbose Agent Logs differ from Agent Logs by the amount of detail provided in the logs. Both the Symantec Management Agent and the server logging are controlled by the registry.  To enable Verbose logging the registry will need to be edited.

Verbose Agent Logs - How to collect:
Please follow the steps below to collect the Verbose Agent Logs:

    1.) Click Start > Run.
2.) Type Regedit and press Enter.
3.) Navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altiris
         \Altiris Agent\Event Logging\LogFile
.
4.) Right click on the LogFile key and select New > DWORD (32-Bit) Value.
5.) Rename the new DWORD key to 'Severity'.
6.) Double click on the Severity key and give it a hexadecimal value of 'FF' and click OK.
7.) Right click on the LogFile key and select New > DWORD (32-Bit) Value.
8.) Rename the new DWORD key to 'MaxFiles'.
9.) Double click on the MaxFiles key and give it a decimal value of 100 (this increases the time
of living of the log files in minutes, the default is 1 or 2 minutes).
10.) After these registry changes have been made and the log files have been collected make
sure to delete the Severity and MaxFiles keys.

Verbose Server Logs - Introduction:
Verbose Server Logs are actually the same log files as the standard server logs. The only difference being that verbose logging has been enabled on those log files.

Verbose Server Logs - When to collect:
Verbose Server Logging is used in many of the same situations that standard server logging is collected, but sometimes it is helpful to see every interaction between all clients and the SMP Server.  Verbose Server Logs differ from Agent Logs by the amount of detail provided within them.       of living of the log files in minutes, the default is 1 or 2 minutes).
10.) After these registry changes have been made and the log files have been collected make
sure to delete the Severity and MaxFiles keys.

Monitor Logs - Introduction:
To capture monitor logs a 3rd party tool like Microsoft's dbgview.exe must be used.  To start Monitor Logging adjustments to the registry must be made.

Monitor Logs - When to collect:
The monitor logs should be collected when there is a suspected problem with the aexmetricprovider process.  When monitor logging is enabled it collects verbose data about how the aexmetricprovider process operates.

Monitor Logs - How to collect:
Please follow the steps below to collect the Monitor Agent Logs:

1.)  Please visit http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896647.aspx and download
      dbgview.exe
 2.)  Click Start > Run > regedit.
3.)  Once regedit is running navigate to the following key
       HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altiris\eXpress\Monitor\Debug.

6.)  Navigate to the download location of the dbgview.exe program and double click it to run it.
7.)  Once dbgview.exe is running click Capture > Capture Global Win32.
8.)  Once Capture Global Win32 has been enabled there will be many more events that appear in
the dbgview log area. Once this is running perform the task in question so that the
events associated with the even in question will be logged.
9.)  Once the task has been completed while monitor logging has been enabled click File > Save.
10.) Give the file an name and save it in the default .LOG format.
11.) Navigate back to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altiris\eXpress\Monitor\Debug and
restore the default settings that were recorded earlier.

PPA Logs - Introduction
PPA stands for pluggable protocol architecture and is used for storing information that is required to communicate with computers and other devices using standard network
monitoring protocols.  The Pluggable Protocols Architecture unifies the configuration of protocols across the Symantec Management Platform. To capture PPA logs the registry
must be edited.

PPA Logs - When to collect:
There can be a number of reasons to collect PPA logs.  General reasons include: PPA error referenced in other logs, PPA error in Symantec management console, issue being caused by unknown source
and PPA is a good place to audials movie crack - Activators Patch for issues.

PPA Logs - How to collect:
1.)   Open Windows Registry Editor via:  Start > Run > type:  regedit and click OK.
2.)   Access the following key:  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altiris\PluggableProtocols
3.)   Right-click PluggableProtocols and create a new Key named "Debug".
4.)   Right-click Debug and add a DWORD value named "Level" with a value of 0. This value alone will allow the debug output to be viewed by a 3rd party debugging tool
(e.g.  Microsoft's DebugView, available with the SysInternals suite). If the debug output needs to be written to a file, add these additional values under the Debug key:
     "Dest"=string: with a value of file([absolute path and file name])  e.g.  file(C:\temp\ppa.log)
     "Format"=string: %time%($MM/$dd/$yy $hh:$mm:$ss) [%thread_id%]
5.)   If on the Symantec Management Platform (SMP) server, restart the Altiris Object Host Service. If on a Site Server, restart the Symantec Management Agent service
For additional AMT logging, include the following in step 4 above:
Right-click PluggableProtocols and choose to create a new Key named "AMT".
Right-click AMT and choose to add a DWORD value named "TraceLevel" with a value of 31.
Note:  PPA debug provides intensive trace output data. Debug Viewer, or logs, will grow large rapidly. It is recommended to disable debug output immediately following diagnostic testing. To disable PPA debug output, delete the registry values under both the .\Debug and .\AMT keys.

Policy Data - Introduction: The client policy XML files contain monitor and other polices

Policy Data - When to collect:
Any time all policies applied to a particular system need to assessed it is a good idea to collect the client policy xml file.

Policy Data - How to collect:
The Client Policy XMLs are located at C:\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Client Policies on all managed clients.

NT Event Logs - Introduction:
NT Event Logs are a component of Microsoft Windows that started with Microsoft Windows NT 4.0.  They are a culmination of events from several system components
including: Application Event Logs, Security Event Logs, System Events Logs, Registry, and Message Resource files. The interface for viewing all of these logs
is through the Event Viewer (eventvwr.exe).  The Event Viewer allows you to view, search, and record the NT Event logs. This discussion of NT Event Logs will be a bit
truncated here as there are entire books written on this subject matter.

NT Event Logs - When to collect:
NT Event Logs are important to collect when certain issues are occurring such as: monitor agent is crashing, Symantec Management Agent is crashing, Monitor Agent is causing
high CPU usage, WMI isn't working correctly, etc.  In general if there is any question about what is causing the problem at hand, look through the NT Events to see if there
are any outstanding errors or warnings that could be related.

NT Event Logs - How to collect:
1.)   Click Start > Run and type eventvwr and click OK.
2.)   There are many options for viewing the Event Logs within Event Viewer, but generally speaking the logs of interest will be Application, Security, and
System.  These are located underneath the Windows Logs directory on the left hand side.
3.)   Once the desired logs have been identified they can be exported by right clicking the desired log and selecting "Save All Events As".
4.)   This will bring up a prompt to name and save the file.  Give it a name and save it.  It will be saved as a .evtx file type.
To view this file at a later time it can be opened by simply double clicking the file and it will load into Event Viewer.

WMI Diagnostic Data, Testing, and Logging - Introduction:
WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) is a core Windows management technology that can corel aftershot pro 3 tutorial - Crack Key For U used to gather system data and control system processes and services locally or remotely.  There are 3 methods to collecting diagnostic information on WMI.  The first portion is the actual diagnostic information that can be gathered by using Microsoft's WMIDiagnosis Tool (WMIDiag).  The second part involves testing the WMI database installed on a machine both locally and remotely across the network which can be done using wbemtest. The instructions here on using WMIDiag will be brief as the full instructions on using the tool are included with the download (WMIDiag.doc). The third portion is WMI logging which requires changes
to the registry of the computer in question.

WMI Diagnostic Data and Logging - When to collect:
Anytime there is an issue or a suspected issue with WMI these logs should be collected.  For instance if WMI metrics are not alerting as expected then WMI diagnostic data and logs should be collected.

WMI Diagnostic Data - How to collect:

WMI Testing - How to test locally and remotely:

 How to test WMI locally:
1.)   Login into the computer in question using an administrator login.
2.)   Click Start > Run and type wbemtest in the Run prompt to launch WMI Tester. Press Connect.
3.)   Type: root\cimv2 in Namespace textbox and click Connect.
4.)   Click Query button and enter the following WQL query “select state, name from win32_service” and click Apply.

  3.)   Type the following command: Get-WmiObject -Namespace "root\cimv2" -Class Win32_Service -Impersonation 3 -Credential domainName\administrator -ComputerName $Computer.
Where domainName is the domain name of the local domain.  Press Enter.
4.)   This will bring up a prompt to enter an administrative username and password.  Enter the appropriate credentials and press Enter.
5.)   This will return all of the services running or not on the machine in question.  To verify the results look at a service that is running on the machine in question and then
make sure the results of the PowerShell query also say that particular service is running.

WMI Logging - How to collect:

How to view WMI Events in Event Viewer:
1.)   Log into the computer you would like to collect WMI logs from.
2.)   Click Start > Run and type eventvwr and click Enter.

7.)   To save the output of the WMI-Activity Trace log, right click the Trace log and select save all events as. Then give the file a name and click Save.

Process Monitor Logs - Introduction:
Process Monitor (ProcMon) is an advanced monitoring tool for Windows that shows realtime file system, Registry and process/thread activity. This can be a very useful tool in many situations, especially if the source of problem at hand is hard to track down.

Process Monitor Logs - When to collect:
Process Monitor logs (PM Logs) are a good to collect when there are problems with the monitor agent such as: excessive CPU usage, excessive memory usage, monitor agent crashes, or monitor agent is causing a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD).

Process Monitor Logs - How to collect:

1.) Download Process Monitor from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx
2.) Create a folder named ProcMon on the root of the C drive. Extract the contents of the zipped folder to C:\ProcMon.
3.) Double click Procmon.exe to start the program.
4.) When Procmon.exe first launches it will automatically start logging. This can cause unnecessary logging and slow operation of the operating system.
To disable logging until the task at hand is ready to be run and logged by Procmon.exe click File > Capture Events.
5.) Once the task to be analyzed is ready to run click File > Capture Events to enable it.
6.) Once the task to be analyzed has been run and logged by Procmon.exe, save the log files by clicking File > Save and then enter the path in which the .PML file is to be saved and click OK.

SQL Server Error Logs and Trace - Introduction:
There are two primary methods for diagnosing SQL Server issues: SQL Server Error Logs and SQL Server Profiler Trace. The SQL Server error logs contains user defined events and certain system events that can be used to troubleshoot issues on the SQL Server.  The Profiler trace is a built in program to Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.  The Profiler is used for monitoring an instance of the Database Engine or Analysis Services. The Profiler trace can provide information on the following issues: Stepping through problem queries to find the cause of the problem, finding and diagnosing slow-running queries, capturing the series of Sql server profiler download - Activators Patch transactions that can then be used on a test server to recreate the issue and diagnose it, monitor the performance of SQL Server to adjust workloads, correlating performance counters to diagnose problems.

SQL Server Error Logs and Trace - When to collect:
SQL Server error logs and profiler trace are a good first step for any potential database problem.  For instance if monitoring reports are working as expected it may be a good idea to check the tables that the report is populated from and you can step through the SQL queries with the profiler or you can scan the error logs for potential problems that may be related.

SQL Server Error Logs - How to collect:

1.)   Log on to the SQL Server with administrator credentials.
2.)   Click Start > All Programs > Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.
